Description

The aim of this talk is highlight and discuss the link between physiologic stress and issues with conception and perinatal health. Beginning with an understanding of physiology and biochemical pathways, we will move into the pathophysiology and where disordered stress responses can affect fertility and perinatal outcomes. As part of this discussion we will cover topics like nutrition, epigenetics and polymorphisms, and the microbiome and their roles in the body's physiologic response to stress and its implcations for fertility and perinatal outcomes. Then we will venture into the role of the provider, what we can do in addition to mind-body techniques and stress modulating herbs or nutrients. We will also discuss how our understanding of nutrition, genetics, and the microbiome may tailor or alter our recommendations.

Learning Objectives

- Understanding the physiolgic and biochemical link between stress, our body's adaptation, and its impact on conception and perinatal outcomes

- Understanding how nutrition, epigenetics and polymorphisms, and the microbiome are involved in pathophysiology of stress maladaption and its impact on conception and perinatal outcomes

- Have a guide to treatment that address stress maladpation generally and also tailored to meet the nutritional, epigenetic, or microbiome needs or deficiencies
