Description
The semen analysis has been the cornerstone of the male infertility evaluation for over 50 years. Despite this, unless no sperm are present, it’s ability to predict male fertility is poor at best. Through an evidence-based review of the fundamental concepts and research underlying the semen analysis, it’s limitations, and power, as a tool to manage male infertility will become more apparent.
Learning Objectives
1.) Describe how the “normal” values for the WHO semen analysis were generated.
2.) List at least 3 causes of low ejaculate volume
3.) Enumerate the relationship between sperm morphology and natural conception, IUI and IVF outcomes
