Endometriosis is a common condition where tissue that behaves like the lining of the womb (the endometrium) is found outside the womb. The condition is estimated to affect around 2 million women in the UK and most of them are diagnosed between the ages of 25 and 40. We will discuss some different etiologies of Endometriosis in chinese medicine and will explain the Endometriosis TCM main pathology - BLOOD STASIS and Kidney Yang Deficiency. Further, we will discuss endometriosis treatment principles (the main and most important one! TREAT THE BAO AND BEN! invigorate blood and tonify the kidneys). We will also discuss different patterns of endometriosis such as Blood Stasis, Stagnation of Cold, Damp Heat, Damp Phlegm in the uterus, Kidney Yang and Yin Deficiency, Blood Deficiency, and lastly one pattern which is very common and combine Blood Stasis, Kidney Yang Deficiency and Dampness. We will go through a list of acupuncture points including some extra points and case histories. 

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the different etiologies, excessive exercise as the cause for endometriosis, due to excessive physical work the spleen liver and kidneys are weaken which effects the Chong and the Ren mai. External cold as the cause for Endometriosis The use of Tampons that can lead to Endometriosis
  2. Discuss Endometriosis TCM pathologies Blood Stasis - "Biao " Kidney Yang Deficiency - "Ben ", cold Dampness, we will discuss treatment principles for each pathology, including the importance of calming the heart as to deal with the pain!
  3. We will discuss the four phases of regulate the menses according the four phases.
  4. Discuss treatment strategy to treat the Ben - (Kidneys) and the Biao - (breaking blood).
  5. Discuss acupuncture treatment as to stimulate ovulation.
  6. Discuss different patterns of Endometriosis - Liver Blood Stasis Cold Stagnation Damp Heat Phlegm in the Uterus Kidney Yang / Yin Deficiency Blood Deficiency Combination of patterns and Common Endometriosis cases that are mostly presented at the clinics and their treatment principles.
  7. A list of Acupuncture points for Endometriosis will be given and discussed.
